The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill
Firhill, the home of Partick Thistle is roughly 7 minutes away from the Embassy Apartments and would be an easy way to fill an afternoon with watching a match. The probability of getting a match ticket would be all but guaranteed and also wouldn’t break the bank therefore a good day out considering it is so close!

Ibrox Stadium
In the South side of the city Rangers Football Club have their Ibrox Stadium which is less than 15 mins away from our hotel. Due to the size and history of the club, not only can you attend a match and take in the atmosphere but there is also the option of taking the guided stadium tour. The Stadium Tour is a professionally guided tour of the stadium, beginning with the walk up the famous marble staircase. On the Stadium Tour you will get exclusive access to the home and away dressing rooms, climb the marble staircase and explore the illustrious Trophy Room.

Celtic Park
Only 19 minutes away in the city’s East end across from the huge velodrome complex built for the 2014 Commonwealth games, is Celtic Park home of Celtic Football Club. Again due to the size and popularity of the club getting a ticket for the match will be harder than previously mentioned but definitely still possible. However, even just going to the stadium is an attraction in of itself and you can also partake in the stadium tour here aswell. Celtic Park is one of the biggest football stadiums in Europe, making it the perfect place to learn all about the colourful history and heritage of Celtic Football Club from its inception in 1888. Take a guided tour of the stadium as well as taking a trip through the history of the club through the various exhibitions.

Hampden Park
Lastly Hampden Park, the Scottish national stadium, is 20 minutes away and although there are less matches played so less chance of experiencing the atmosphere of a game. However, not only can you do a tour of the stadium but the Scottish National Football Museum is inside also. The stadium tour takes you into the dressing rooms, trophy room and into the “hotshots” gallery where you can take a penalty in the practice area and have your shot’s speed measured. Then afterwards you can see all the history in the museum and the Scottish Football Hall of Fame and much much more!

Also coming in April there is an inclusive driven tour that will take you to visit all 4 of the Glasgow stadiums and give you insight into the rich history the game has in our city!

National Whiskey Festival 25th January 2020 at SWG3

Don’t like Whisky? Never tried it? there is going to be something for everyone at The National Whisky Festival of Scotland. Scotland’s definitive whisky festival.

But don’t be fooled, this is no stuffy, suit and tie affair. From seasoned palettes to adventurous newcomers, everyone is welcome. You won’t be sniffed at for enjoying whisky your way, nor will you have to pay through the nose to sample some of the finest whiskies the world has to offer. This is about having fun and celebrating our national drink together in great company, And while you don’t have to wear even an inch of tartan – we wouldn’t say no to a kilt or two!

The festival will once again take place at the city’s SWG3 on Saturday 25 January with two impressive tasting floors spread across the TV Studio and Galvanizers rooms in the popular warehouse events complex. SWG3 studio werehouse is conviently less than 10 minutes away from The Embassy Apartments.

There will also be a whisky cocktail bar offering visitors the chance to sample a selection of expertly-mixed variations on our national drink, as well as a craft beer bar and plenty of delicious, hearty food from local restaurants and street food vendors. Tickets on sale now!

Proms in the Park

The Scottish portion of BBC’s 2 month long event The Proms, comes to Glasgow Green on the 14th of September with Proms in the Park.

One of the musical highlights of the year the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Bell, takes centre stage performing classical pieces, traditional Scottish reels, as well as some well-known favourites.

Presented by tenor and BBC Radio Scotland presenter Jamie MacDougall, with special guests still to be added to accompany the Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Last year’s special guest performer was Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Glasgow Green, The Titanic Slipways in Belfast and also London’s Hyde Park are all hosting a Proms in the Park to coince with the finale of “The Proms” in London’s Albert Hall. Therefore, the live link up between the venues and the thousands of people in attendance all singing together is the unique crescendo to the previous 2 months of events.

Charles Rennie MacKintosh – 1868–1928

Charles Rennie Mackintosh was an architect, designer and artist, and one of Scotland’s most inspiring and innovative individuals.

Many of his world-famous buildings and interiors are to be found in Glasgow. His greatest accomplishments include his showpiece The Glasgow School of Art, the villas Windyhill and The Hill House, Scotland Street School, and an assortment of city-centre tea room interiors.

Mackintosh passionately believed that a room is a work of art and so his signature style was born in the form of his fabulously iconic furniture.

Mackintosh At The Willows
This A list building houses a 200 seat tea room and restaurant within 3 floors with both exterior and interior designed by Mackintosh. Seen as a perfect example of complete Art Nouveau design, the tea rooms re-opened in 2018 after major restorations and was
officially opened by Prince Charles. The Visitor Centre and Retail store is next door to the tea rooms. It’s most definitely an interesting a beautiful spot to go and see!

The Hunterian
The University of Glasgow’s Hunterian Museum is home to the Mackintosh House. The House is a precise re-creation of the original interiors from the Mackintoshes’ Glasgow residence at 78 Southpark Avenue (originally 6 Florentine Terrace) from 1906 to 1914. Extensive modifications were made in 1906 as Mackintosh remodelled the dimensions and allowed additional natural daylight into the Victorian end-of-terrace home. Stunning then, and now, the house has been adorned with his own furnishings – all to his own iconic design. It’s definitely worth a visit!

Martyr’s School
Designed in 1895, the Martyr’s School isn’t open to the public, but holds a special place in the hearts of Mackintosh fans since it sits on the very street he was born in, Parsons Street. This red sandstone building is crowned by three ventilators with distinctly decorative finials in true Mackintosh style. The interior includes lime-washed plaster walls and magnificent roof trusses.

House For An Art Lover
Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1901 and built in the beautiful surroundings of Bellahouston Park in the 1990s, House for an Art Lover gives the visitor a snapshot into Mackintosh’s unique genius as an architect, artist, designer and trailblazer of the Art Noveau crusade. The elegant country spot holds regular arts themed activities and you can grab a bite to eat at Art Lover’s Cafe with a relaxing view of the gardens.

Glasgow School Of Art
Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in stages between 1896-1909. The Mackintosh Building quickly became of iconic status in Glasgow and was standing for over 100 years. After a major fire in the Mackintosh Building in June 2018, The Glasgow School of Art visitor centre, shop and exhibition spaces in the nearby Reid building are sadly closed to visitors at this time.

Kings Theatre
Opened in 1904, it’s stunning design is a much-loved Glasgow landmark and institution, playing host to big showbiz names and shows ever since. The stamping ground to the ultimate Christmas pantomime, which has seen the likes of Scottish treasures including Stanley Baxter, Rikki Fulton, Elaine C Smith and Gerard Kelly, it’s a must for theatre
buffs.

Theatre Royal
The Theatre Royal opened it’s doors in 1867 and is the oldest Theatre in Glasgow with it’s fantastic Victorian auditorium. It offers a diverse line-up of drama, dance, comedy, opera, musicals and children’s theatre. Theatre Royal is also home to Scotland’s Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet.

Pavilion
Opened in 1904, the Pavilion is a statuesque structure with all the bright lights that go along with this variety performance venue. You’ll find something for everyone and all ages. Renowned plays here have included “The Steamie” and “The Sash”. If you’re a bit peckish there’s plenty of excellent eateries nearby.

Websters Theatre
In the heart of the West End, this charmingly haunting A-listed Gothic Revival Church was originally erected in 1863 and featured stained glass windows by Alf Webster, the theatre’s namesake. Transformed into a 182 seat theatre, it puts on a terrific assortment of performances to indulge all interests. Choose from dramas, musicals, stand-up comedy and much more. It also has a bar and bistro for pre-theatre treats!

Oran Mor
What can we say? You must visit Oran Mor – a unique arts and entertainment spot, a stones throw from us, which offers a Victorian Bar and Whisky Bar, two restaurants, a night club and live music all under a magnificently ornate auditorium with mural ceiling. But there’s more – you can still get your theatrical fix in the form of the internationally famous “A Play A Pie And A Pint”! showing Monday – Saturday 1pm.

Cottiers Bar, Restaurant and Theatre
If you prefer unorthodox,try a truly unique theatrical spot presenting all kinds of events from traditional stage plays to live music and stand up comedy. Quaint surroundings set the mood in the form of elaborate stained glass and ornate wood. Enjoy performances like The Medieval Banquet at Cottiers – a medieval themed hog roast banquet with costumes strongly encouraged!

The West End Festival – Fri 31st May to Sun 30th June

Think sunny summer days and long warm nights and get ready for the biggest festival in Glasgow’s cultural calendar which presents a broad range of events and performances every June! 

The West End Festival springs to life across the trendy West End which is, of course, on our doorstep! Byres Road is the main hub of the event which sees a glittering parade of dancers strut their stuff followed by colourful floats and huge parade vehicles, all in celebration of the ethnic mix and cosmopolitan culture of our city.

The WEF combines all these activities into the festival line-up and features events, fairs, musical performances, theatrical productions, tours, workshops and screenings, with a lot of them free of charge, such as the Glasgow Mela, Scotland’s largest multi-cultural festival of music,dance,arts and cuisine from around the world, which is back with a bang this year at Kelvingrove Park on Sunday 23rd June!
